Child’s play

It is rare nowadays to see children playing under the sun as more and more would rather play inside the comforts of their homes. Although it can be argued that it is safer, physical, mental and emotional growth are not developing to their full potential.

The introduction of personal gaming consoles from the Atari console to the latest Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony Playstation and Nintendo Wii had made the children seek entertainment and fun from the comforts of their couches. Internet gaming has also contributed to the slow demise of traditional Filipino games that I used to play when I was still a kid in the 80’s. I have seen in the news of Filipino parents outside of the Philippines trying to introduce these games to their kids which I think is very laudable.

Sadly from my observation that is not the case here in the Philippines. I only see kids playing those traditional games in poor communities most likely from the lack of available options. I just hope that parents would not let the games they enjoyed when they were young die a slow death.
